Industrial furnaces for aerospace

Ensures precise industrial furnaces improving durability strength and compliance standards.

NUTEC Bickley and the Aerospace Industry

An aerospace industrial oven or furnace is an important equipment for processing metals, ceramics and composites. By maintaining precise temperature, atmosphere, and cycle parameters, these ovens and furnaces help aerospace manufacturers meet stringent industry standards.

The aerospace industry requires materials to withstand extreme temperatures, high pressures, and high mechanical stress. Industrial ovens and furnaces support these requirements by processing many different heat treatments to improve these materials required properties.

Such processing enhances the durability, hardness, and corrosion resistance of components used in aircraft, satellites, and propulsion systems.

Our more than 50 years of best technology on thermal engineered equipment, insulation systems, combustion equipment, instrumentation, controls and heat recovery systems.

Key considerations for an aerospace industrial furnace

Temperature Uniformity and Control
Achieving consistent mechanical properties requires accurate process and temperature control. Variations in heat distribution may result in inconsistencies with hardness and strength properties.

Aerospace industrial ovens and furnaces are designed with advanced temperature control systems, achieving uniform heating across the entire working load. Compliance with standards such as AMS 2750 for pyrometry is essential for process validation and repeatability.
Process and Automation
Performance in heat treatment processing directly impacts production capacity and costs. Modern aerospace industrial ovens and furnaces integrate automation and data acquisition systems to optimize cost and cycle times.

Real-time data tracking and predictive maintenance increase operational reliability, reducing downtime and increasing overall capacity. Many systems now incorporate Industry 4.0 technologies, allowing operators to monitor and adjust furnace parameters remotely.

What types of industrial furnaces are used in the aerospace industry?

Aluminum Heat-Treating Ovens & Furnaces
Aluminum is widely used in the aerospace industry. Most of the components made of aluminum need to be heat-treated through different types of equipment.
The main ones considered would be a drop bottom furnace for solution heat-treating. This arrangement ensures a fast quenching required for the thickness of those parts.
Also, batch aging ovens (box, car bottom, etc.) are often used following the solution of heat-treating to achieve the required temper denomination for the target properties.
Curing Ovens
Many parts in the aerospace industry are manufactured out of composite materials.
Those are normally cured inside an autoclave but also some curing ovens can be used.
A composite curing oven is used to cure, anneal, dry, and/or harden synthetic and composite materials.
The parts would normally be put inside bags connected to a vacuum system through a vacuum pump and manifold.
Forge Heating and Heat-Treating Furnaces
Box, roller hearth furnaces, and other types of furnaces may be used for heating titanium or different types of steel prior to forging.
Following the forge process, most of those parts will need to be heat-treated at different temperatures and sometimes under controlled atmospheres like argon, nitrogen, or hydrogen to protect materials from contamination.

Frequently asked questions about our aerospace industry

What are the key requirements and technologies for selecting aerospace heat treatment furnaces?

Other than the standard possible configuration, aerospace ovens & furnaces can be designed to adapt to your process, quality requirements and production flow. At NUTEC Bickley, we often integrate options that add control, safety, and flexibility to the system.

For this quality-driven industry, our equipment complies with AMS 2750 and similar specifications, with digital temperature recorders and data acquisition systems to ensure full process traceability. Automation features allow for unattended operation, improving repeatability while reducing labor involvement.

How do industrial furnaces ensure compliance with aerospace standards?

Compliance with high standards is critical in heat treating for aerospace components. Organizations must follow specifications such as AMS 2750 for pyrometry, NADCAP accreditation, and various AS9100 quality management requirements.

Failure to meet these standards can result in compromised component performance, increased liability, and potential safety risks. An aerospace industrial furnace must be designed to meet these stringent specifications, ensuring that manufacturers can maintain the highest levels of quality and traceability.
