Gas Ovens for Industrial Use: How to Convert Them to Electric

When fossil fuels are burned, large amounts of carbon dioxide are released into the air, generating a greenhouse gas. These greenhouse gases trap heat in our atmosphere, causing global warming.

In this article, we will talk about how it is possible to convert a furnace to operate on electricity and its benefits for caring for the environment.

How Can Electric Ovens Help Prevent Global Warming?

Electrically heated low and high temperature kilns do not emit greenhouse gases when operating. However, the way the electric power supply is produced may release some of those gases, and thereby reduce this option's overall effectiveness in preventing global warming.

Therefore, the first step would be to strive to reduce the greenhouse effects, and we hope that companies in the electricity generation industry will provide greener energy to contribute to this important collective goal.

How Do We Convert Gas Industrial Ovens to Electric?

For low-temperature ovens, this type of conversion should normally be easy to implement. It should usually be possible to replace the combustion equipment with an electric heater; subsequently, the control panel can be replaced or modified to include power components that control the heating elements.

More modifications would be required for high temperature kilns. Installing heating elements on the walls would require replacement insulation for this particular oven/furnace section. Instead, hanging heaters with bayonet-type elements may be possible, avoiding the need for certain modifications.

Benefits of Converting

Some advantages of this conversion for the user are:

  • High and low temperature electric ovens/furnaces are more efficient, quieter, and safer than their gas counterparts.
  • They offer the ability to easily control loads from 0 to 100%, in addition to their ease in providing better temperature uniformity.
  • They currently present a more environmentally friendly image and can offer certain advantages when considering the upcoming carbon taxes announced by many governments.
