In the context of combustion systems, “regenerative” refers to a process where heat from exhaust gases is captured, stored and reused to preheat incoming air, improving overall system efficiency.
In systems like RTOs, ceramic media beds store heat from outgoing clean air and transfer it to incoming contaminated air. This results in high energy efficiency, lower fuel consumption, and reduced emissions.
RTOs comprise high-quality ceramic media, allowing for greater energy accumulation and a very high exchange surface area, which provides an overall thermal efficiency range of 95 to 99%. Additionally, they deliver a contaminant destruction rate greater than 99%.
By recovering and reusing heat through ceramic media, RTOs can drastically reduce fuel consumption—and, in some cases, operate with minimal or no auxiliary fuel when VOC levels are high enough.
